Near Me – NHSG Google Chrome Users – Potential Issue

NHSG’s cyber team sent out a message to all NHSG users this afternoon (27/09/2024) noting that due to a heightened cyber threat access to most websites through Google Chrome will be blocked, with the exception of sites ending nhs.uk or locally hosted sites – including the intranet. This may mean that Near Me (https://nhs.attendanywhere.com) is impacted by this change. The cyber team did note that the address has been whitelisted so Near Me should be okay.

If you do run into issues, the easy fix to this issue is to copy https://nhs.attendanywhere.com into a Microsoft Edge browser and Near Me will operate as normal. Please see the full message below from NHSG’s cyber team below that also includes useful information regarding importing your Google Chrome favourites into Edge.

“From this evening, access to most websites through Google Chrome will be blocked, with the exception of sites ending nhs.uk or locally hosted sites – including the intranet. This is due to a heightened cyber threat.

All links which usually work in Chrome should continue to work in Microsoft Edge.

You can import your Chrome favourites to Edge by entering the following link into your Edge browser edge://settings/profiles/importBrowsingData

As always we would ask network users to be cautious when clicking on any link they may be directed to while browsing the internet. If you find you a website you need does not work in Edge – and please do check first – please log a call with the service desk, including the website address.
