We’re moving to SIP dialling. Much of the telecoms world has moved away from H.320 (ISDN) calling for video conferencing and embraced H.323 (IP) based video conferencing. It is now moving slowly towards SIP as the preferred protocol for video and audio calls.
With this in mind the National Video Conferencing Service is currently in the process of testing dual H.323/SIP registrations on all capable VC endpoints to allow for more efficient connections between different systems. This means endpoints that currently operate using different call protocols will be able to communicate directly, rather than requiring our infrastructure to translate between the two standards which entails the use of expensive traversal licenses.
For the time being the default call protocol will remain as H.323, with SIP available as a fallback. Over time it is envisaged that we will fully migrate to using SIP as the standard call protocol.
